Success Stories

Since Aishworya was first established in 2005, we have been able to successfully re-locate over 30 children back with their families, or in some cases arrange adoptions. Some of these children stayed with us for only a few weeks, while others stayed for many months, sometimes a year or more.
Suresh, Ronish and Nimdorge’s parents were all arrested in the same village for the same crime, which they were innocent of, and were released at the same time. With the exception of Jeetu and Arun, all of these have been success stories.

Suresh, male, age 8

Suresh was with us for just over a year. His mother died and his father was in jail for robbery.
However, after a year in prison his father was released and declared innocent of all charges, so Suresh was allowed to go home and live with his father again in September 2007.

Nimdorge, male, age 7

Nimdorge was with us for just over a year. His mother died and his father was in jail for robbery.
However, after a year in prison his father was released and declared innocent of all charges, so Nimdorge was allowed to go home and live with his father again in September 2007.

Ronish, male, age 7

Ronish was with us for just over a year. His mother died and his father was in jail for robbery.
However, after a year in prison his father was released and declared innocent of all charges, so Ronish was allowed to go home and live with his father again in September 2007.

Keshab, male, age 5

Keshab was with us for 6 months after both of his parents died.
Some friends of Nirmala asked him to stay with them for the Dashain festival. While staying with this family he met their neighbours, who had recently lost their son in a car accident. They immediately bonded and an adoption was arranged.
Keshab was successfully adopted in October 2007.

Sunita, female, age 4

Sunita’s father is dead and her mother was unable to take care of her. In September 2007, her mother found a job working for another orphanage, and Sunita was transferred there to be with her mother.

Binod Tamang,  male, age 6

Binod’s father had gone to Malaysia to find work, and his mother fell ill and was unable to care for him by herself.
Binod lived with us for 18 months, but in October 2007 his father returned to Nepal and took Binod home to care for him and his mother.

Shanjana, female, age 8

Shanjana’s mother died and her father re-married. Her step-mother did not want to raise any step-children so Shanjana was brought to us. After 8 months, her step-mother died and she was able to return and live with her father again (in November 2007).

Mina Shresha, female, age 13

Mina was working as a house maid when Nirmala found her and brought her to the orphanage. She stayed with us for about 18 months, during which time she gave us information to try and find her family. We tracked down her father (her mother is dead) but he was unable to care for her at that time. In November 2007 her father requested that she return to their family home, as he was unwell and needed help to run the house.
Mina returned to visit us in May of 2009 and is doing extremely well. She is now 15, happy and healthy, and lives in Pokhara with her family.

Amar Tamang, male, age 8

(no photo available)

Amar was abandoned, and didn’t know which village he was from, only the general district. After a brief stay with us, he was moved by the Women and Children Welfare Office to an orphanage in his district to help him try to locate his family.

Suraj Tamang, male, age 9

Suraj’s parents are both dead. His uncle is a monk in a prestigious Buddhist monastery. He requested that Suraj be brought to the monastery to train as a monk, so that they could stay together as a family, but there was a waiting list. Suraj stayed with us for just over a year until a place became available for him at the monastery. He moved there in November 2007.

Jeetu Bahadur Tamang, male, age 15

Jeetu was one of the original boys Nirmala found when she started the orphanage. His father is missing and his mother committed suicide while he was staying at the orphanage. Jeetu was unaware that his mother had died and ran away to search for her in September 2007. We have not heard any news about him since then, but we pray that he is safe and will one day return to the orphanage.

Seema, female, age 11

Seema was brought to us by police officers in April 2008, and stayed at Aishworya for two months.

Her mother died a year ago and her father works as a porter in the Himalayas. Seema’s neighbors took her to the police, after her father failed to return from a trek. However, her father returned in June  and Seema was reunited with him and allowed to go back to her home in the Gorkha district with him.

Amrit, male, age 3

Amrit was brought to us in April 2008 by a taxi driver who found him and another boy, Niraj (below), wandering alone on the street. The driver took both boys to the police station, where they registered their details and then brought them to Aishworya. Amrit and Niraj did not seem to know each other, or be related, so it was suspicious that they were both found wandering lost in the city together.
However, we were happy to announce in Novermber 2008 that the police had found his parents and he was reunited with his family. Amrit stayed at Aishworya for 8 months altogether.

Niraj, male, age 3

Niraj was brought to us in April 2008 by a taxi driver who found him and another boy, Amrit, wandering alone on the street.
Niraj stayed at Aishworya for 8 months altogether.

Priti Neopani, female, age 8

This is Priti. Her father disowned her in April 2008, suddenly claiming after 7 years that Priti is not his child. He threw her out of the house. Her mother continued to live at home with her husband but had to take a night job and was not able to look after her. Her mother was sponsoring Priti to stay at Aishworya and provided a small sum of money each month to pay for her school fees and food. Priti stayed with us for a year, but eventually her family situation was resolved and she was able to return to live with her parents again in April 2009.

Veejay Tamang, male, age 10

Veejay was brought to us by the police in May 2008, after they found him alone on the streets. He was very shy and quiet, and was scared to tell us where he was from or what has happened to him in case he got sent away again. In April 2009, Veejay’s uncle came to the orphanage, having spent almost a year searching orphanages across Kathmandu for him. Veejay was overjoyed to be reunited with his uncle again. Veejay spent 11 months at Aishworya altogether.

Sajana Tamang, female, age 4

Birth date – 12th February 2005

Sajana’s father is in jail and her mother worked as a prostitute. Her mother was taken ill and was unable to take care of her. Sajana likes to sing Nepali songs and play with dolls. Sometimes her mother and grandmother would come to visit her and take her out for the weekend, and we were extremely happy that in April 2009 Sajana’s mother was well enough to take care of her again, so she left Aishworya to live with her mother and grandmother again.

Sajana stayed at Aishworya for 2 years altogether.

Sani, female, age 7

Sani came to the Aishworya family in June 2008. Sani, a 6 year old girl was found wondering around near our area and was brought to us by community police. Sani was very  shy and didn’t talk much. However the police were able to locate her family and she was reunited with them in August 2008.

Anil  Tamang, male, age 5

Anil was abandoned and left in a rickshaw in the tourist district. The rickshaw owner brought him to the police and they brought him to us. He rarely spoke and we believed that he may have some developmental delays. He did not really like to play with the other children; mostly he just sat quietly and watched the others play. The only time he really responds to anything is music, and he really loves to dance for hours. In September 2008 Anil’s Grandfather arrived at Aishworya, after searching for over a year for Anil. His Grandfather took Anil home to live with him. Anil stayed at Aishworya for 2 years altogether.

Arun Bahadur Tamang, male, age 13

Arun and his older brother Jeetu were sent by their parents into Kathmandu to work when Arun was 8 years old. They were abused and ran away from their employer. Nirmala found them lost and alone in the streets and took them to an orphanage. They were two of the original 6 children Nirmala took in when she started this orphanage. Arun’s brother Jeetu sadly ran away to look for his mother, unaware that his parents had both died. Arun had another older brother but he was brutally murdered by Maoists. Arun is very smart and wants to help poor people and work as a social worker when he grows up. Unfortunately, Arun also ran away in November of 2009. We believe that he went to look for his brother Jeetu, and we hope and pray that he is safe and comes back to us very soon.

Bipin Aryal, male, age 10

Bipin is a lovely boy who is always smiling and is very active. He loves to sing Nepali and English songs, and his aim is to become an actor when he grows up, like his favourite Nepali actor, Rajesh Hamal. Bipin really loves sports, especially football. He is very inquisitive about everything and loves school! Bipin had lived at Aishworya for 4 years with his older brother Yogesh, His father was arrested in Afghanistan for working without a visa, and his mother has a serious heart condition and was unable to look after them.

Thankfully, Bipin’s mother has received treatment for her heart condition, and also received a small grant to help her to re-start her farm. She is now well enough to look after Bipin again, and he returned home in December 2009. His brother Yogesh will stay on at Aishworya until his mother is strong enough to care for both of them properly.

Khushi, female, age 4

Khushi was found by the community police wandering around alone in Baluwatar, the same district as our orphanage, in June 2009. She had not been able to tell us or the police anything about herself or her family, but after staying with us for 1 month, we are proud to announce that the police tracked down her family and she was reunited with her parents again in July 2009.

Anjila Sherpa, female, age: 6

Anjila and her brother Renjing (below) were brought to us by their mother in May 2009. Their father was working abroad, and has been imprisoned in Kuwait. Their mother had no financial support, and was unable to care for them and work at the same time. She asked if her children could stay at Aishworya until she is able to care for them again.
Thankfully in June 2010, Anjila and Renjing’s mother was able to care for them properly again and they both returned back home.

He came to stay with us in August 2009 as his mother is struggling to take care of him.
He is a lovely, bright and cheerful boy, with a big smile, and he is always eager to help.
In April 2010, Prince returned to live with his family again, although he still visits us regularly!
